Tales from the firewall

a workshop and performance in corporate with the contemporary art festival: Fete dela WSK! in Manila, Philippines

We are willing to tell a story from you…

The aim of such workshop is to let the participants to deciding to the workshop direction, to being creative by defining the whole story telling. This is a collaborative workshop with a lot of research, a "self-research" in a way. The artists cited above, are here to provide some help, giving assistance in choosing the instruments-tools to express themselves, coordinate the main working development, open up to ‘other’ directions and of course to participate all together to the public performance. To provide a certain direction and after a meeting-chat, we have focused on the Hanging Coffins from Sagada, Mountain Province as a starting point for the workshop. According to this, we have found a main title that will certainly provide some inputs from the participants because of its openness, Tales From The Firewalls.
Metaphors happen right here at this level. A quick definition: ‘a firewall is a device designed to permit or deny network transmissions’ (i.e. wikipedia). Here we are, in the pr
ocess and concept of communication. From a traditional point of view, the communication with the spiritual defined by the sound of the Gong, Bell Tones and from a contemporary approach, whereas we belong to the society of communication, the Network as a new belief, a new entity, getting the gates by its little spreading fancy children such as cell-phones, iPad, Android, sound toys app., … our living experience is surrounded by those beeps & signals as part of the soundscape of the e-modernity."

(extract from the original proposal for the workshop by Thierry B-G.)

the complete proposal for the workshop is available here

Csoma's room Project in Zangla Khar

Restoration of an Ancient Building in Himalayas

This project was started in 2007 by a small group of people. Now they have a foundation and a pretty nice plan, how to preserve this building which is a very important value. Not only as a Hungarian memorial place I believe, this is one of the most important places on the globe.

"In the remote monastery of Himalayan Zangla, Alexander Csoma de Körös a pioneer in Tibetan linguistics became famous as the author of the Tibetan-English dictionary and Tibetan grammar book. His room, identified by Baktay and the neighboring shrine full of valuable relics are about to collapse. The building itself is built on a massive rock base. The lower two stories are built of stone, the third story is adobe. Since the building has been abandoned for decades, the leaking roof has split the walls and made holes on the building. The building can be saved and preserved for a longer period of time using local labor, traditional methods and materials."

project owner: János Jelen - Chairman of Board of Trustees of Royal Angkor Foundation
project leader: Balázs Irimiás - architect, researcher PhD candidate

task: leading the project on site financially and professionally coordinating the architectural work as volunteer

Enigma 2007

Object on Countryside (Project I.)

There is one point on the hill. This is a milestone. The task is to make an object which is linked to this milestone.
in fact this milestone is so small, you can not even find from the valley, but i do not think, that the only solution is to build something on the top of that. simply i have to show where is this point on the hill. to determine the position of a point also can mean I point at from somewhere.
so this is an observatory in fact. through this object i can observe the milestone. this observatory is a strange object in the landscape attracting the visitors. the question is: what it it for? answer: an enigma
