Tales from the firewall

a workshop and performance in corporate with the contemporary art festival: Fete dela WSK! in Manila, Philippines

We are willing to tell a story from you…

The aim of such workshop is to let the participants to deciding to the workshop direction, to being creative by defining the whole story telling. This is a collaborative workshop with a lot of research, a "self-research" in a way. The artists cited above, are here to provide some help, giving assistance in choosing the instruments-tools to express themselves, coordinate the main working development, open up to ‘other’ directions and of course to participate all together to the public performance. To provide a certain direction and after a meeting-chat, we have focused on the Hanging Coffins from Sagada, Mountain Province as a starting point for the workshop. According to this, we have found a main title that will certainly provide some inputs from the participants because of its openness, Tales From The Firewalls.
Metaphors happen right here at this level. A quick definition: ‘a firewall is a device designed to permit or deny network transmissions’ (i.e. wikipedia). Here we are, in the pr
ocess and concept of communication. From a traditional point of view, the communication with the spiritual defined by the sound of the Gong, Bell Tones and from a contemporary approach, whereas we belong to the society of communication, the Network as a new belief, a new entity, getting the gates by its little spreading fancy children such as cell-phones, iPad, Android, sound toys app., … our living experience is surrounded by those beeps & signals as part of the soundscape of the e-modernity."

(extract from the original proposal for the workshop by Thierry B-G.)

the complete proposal for the workshop is available here

Fete dela WSK! is dedicated to contemporary electronic, digital and e
xperimental sonic art, as well the diverse range of artistic activities in the context of digital culture in South East Asia.

WSK! -- three cryptic letters, which can only provide as much as the sum of the parts. Organized by SABAW Media Art Kitchen – a not-for-profit organization whose primary interests lie in curatorial and research-based production towards the imminent intersections of art and technology.

Temps d'Images

Temps d'Images is competition between visual and performing artists. year by year the TRAFÓ is the hungarian partner of the french initiative.

in the year 2008 with my two friend of mine we got the chance to make a short performance. We decided to visualize a slow process of the agonies.

We choose the own writings of the actor who made a recordings in a studio. At the same time we made video recordings in different extreme situation of the actor.

During the performance we installed for big TFT surface in the theatre and four speakers. We mixed the sound and the video in real time during the performance.

In the middle of the stage we installed a mosquito net with a cotton candy maker machine and a projector above. As we projected the video on the surface the candy started to melt and added a grotesque feeling of these agonies.

Thanks to TRAFÓ!

PechaKucha night Amsterdam, NL

I presented the Lánchid19 Hotel facade design work in Amsterdam in this year September.

the philosophy of the series "Pecha Kucha" is taken from their website:

"Pecha Kucha Night is an intimate gathering that offers everybody the chance to present fresh and creative work, ideas or concepts. This can be a newly finished building, a new piece of furniture, an ad campaign, a fashion line, a new event or any idea the world needs to know about.

The Tokyo based architecture firm Klein Dytham Architetcs (KDA) originally started Pecha Kucha Night in their nightclub Supperclub. After it proved to be a perfect recipe for a good night out and a great way of meeting new people, ideas, employees or jobs the evening was picked up all over the world. ICA Club director Iram Quraishi, co-founder of the London edition called it a sort of speed dating. Pecha Kucha brings together the ideas and not the bodies. Pecha Kucha Night in the Netherlands is founded and organised by HUNK-design and Studio Popcorn.

The Japanese term ´Pecha Kucha´ roughly translates as chit-chat or noisy chatter. As a potent crossbreed between an elevator pitch and a slide show Pecha Kucha Night presents 12 participants who show 20 slides for twenty seconds each. No more boring lectures, painful seminars or tiring presentations. Pecha Kucha Night offers the audience the experience of a dazzling range of speakers and images in the course of one evening. Breaks will be filled with drinks, music, images, and off course: chit-chat (so bring your business cards).

Pecha Kucha Night Nederland invites everybody to join, either by visiting one of our upcoming events or by sending in work for presentation. The first 6 min and 40 seconds (20 slides x 20 seconds) of your 15 minutes of fame can start right here and right now. With drinks, dance and the newest ideas in the same room at the same time, who knows what will happen..."

media facade conference 2007 London, UK

After we have done the realization of the hotel facade and have introduced to the public, we were kindly welcome to the first media facade conference in London organized by the Mediaarchitecture.

Introduction

Urban public space – understood as open, civic space – is a key
element in the development of European urbanism. It is based on a
well-balanced mix of functions and the idea of the inhabitant as active
citizen.

We currently face a transitional period of restructuring social
networks in a globalised world. This is resulting in various
experiments with new types of relations and exchange processes,
supported by the developing interactive new media tools. In order to
maintain the social sustainability of our cities, it is important to
connect this new virtual space for development of public sphere and
social exchange with the acquisition and reactivation of urban public
space....(from the mediaarchitecture.org) visit the site to read more

Traffic Responsive Lighting System on the atrium residential
architect: Wing LLC architectural consultancy
tasks: design and realization of a lighting system, managing the realization as a design manager of Arcus műhely (ARCM), teamwork in the Szövetség'39 design team in corporation with NEXTLAB

"We started to work on this project with Be Light Ltd. in March 2007. The project is about phisically working out the vision of the facade planned by the architects. We developed our own lighting system (in fact lamps) with new solutions in form, aesthetics and technology. The duty of these lighting panels is to uniform visually the two, different wings of the facade. What's more, the program-operated light reacts the noise-level of Váci Road, so, it became an active art work determined by the effects of the environment, similarly to the facade of Lánchíd 19 Design Hotel. This work is also named by the partly same designer and producer teams and companies." (from the site: V45-atriumpark.blogspot.com)

Environment-responsive kinetic glass facade, we also call it Luminescent Bacteria

Lánchíd 19 hotel

in corporation with NEXTLAB

"Named after Budapest’s famed “Chain Bridge” which spans the Danube, the first Design Hotel in Hungary is a contemporary highlight in a neighbourhood of predominately 19th century architecture. This contrast is indicative of Budapest’s evolving character, one which celebrates both past and present. The architect and design team created a moveable accordion-like glass façade, further animated by the changing colours of an innovative lighting design concept." (Péter Sugár)

Images of the facade are exhibited at the Gwanju Design Biennale in South Korea

the glass facade won the Hungarian Design Award in the category of Product.

Re:orient - migrating architectures

The installation of the Hungarian pavilion of the Venice architectural biennial 2006, Italy

design team: Re:orient
tasks: design the installation from the concept until the detail and realization in team work

Our project, "re:orient - migrating architectures" explores the local aspects of China's global significance and increasing influence. The project seeks to forecast possibilities which are now detectable only in connection with retail, but which will, in all likelihood, determine the built environment, which transforms under the pressure of ever-cheaper products. The project follows up these ideas with the presentation of spaces, architectural devices and materials that create new contents, and indicate ways of turning these constraints of the market to our benefit, show how to infuse the mass products, which are designed to have a short life-span, with lasting cultural values.

1:1

A match between two dancers and a noisician, with unpredictable outcome. Running in circles. Is there another way, with these rails along the tracks? Stop asking questions. Even this circle will appear infinite if you run long enough. And there is no umpire. Or if there is one, he keeps blowing the wrong whistle. The improvised dance performance 1 on 1 premiered in August 2006 in Budapest at the Millenáris Park Action series of events

You are being so strange today

A hard-hitting visual team, a twisted noisemaker-musician, and a dancer with a weight problem ponder the question of: How to be one’s own shadow?
„The quasi-solo piece entitled You Are Being So Strange Today is a worthy sequel to Szabó’s recent work that has been persistently self-ironic and keen on holding up a distorting mirror to the world.” (szinhaz.hu) An improvising duet composed for a dancer and a noisist, You Are Being So Strange Today has been invited for performances at such distinguished venues as the Nu Dance Festival in Bratislava, the Vasarely Museum in Budapest, and the Museum of Fine Arts, also in Budapest.

"A lámpatest hatásában puha üvegszőnyeg. a finom, kb. 1cm átmérőjű csövekből kialakított szálak sűrűn egymás mellett, helyezkednek el. ötösével egy vastagabb csőből kialakított tönkhöz kapcsolódnak az üvegszőrök. a raszteresen 4cm-ként kiosztott lyukakat egy-egy plexi cső béleli ki. ezeken keresztül lóg a közel kétezer darab üvegtönk. a fényes bőrszerű átlátszó fólia, plasztikusan tölti ki a lyukak közötti üres tereket. az erősen tagolt felületen minden fényhatás és színtevékenység aktív vizuális élményként jelentkezik. a tömött szövetet néha egy-egy habos gömb formájú nagyobb test-tartozék lazítja fel. a csápmező megvilágítását dupla sorokban a mennyezetre erősített fénycsövekkel oldották meg. a vegyesen fehér és kék színű világítótestek egyenletes fényt biztosítanak az egész mező számára. kérésünkre elkészült egy idozítő kapcsoló is, ami szabályozza a fénycsövek összeadódó színértékének fehérből kékbe tolódását és ennek ciklikusságát. ezzel is igyekeztünk a legközelebb kerülni ahhoz a hatáshoz, amit egy élő anyag klikk ide!érzete kelthet bennünk."
